Pair of Large Japanese Ceramic Shi-Shi Dogs roof tiles, Bizen kiln, 20th c.
Bizen kiln is one of the oldest and well known kilns in Japan. This is a very unusual pose of Shi-Shi Dogs and is unique for roof tiles. The expressions on the well modeled features of the dogs are very well executed.
The “bizen” markings authenticate the pieces.
