This handsome unique sewing/work stand is quintessentially the work of a master Philadelphia cabinetmaker. It has 2 drawers with replaced hand-cast solid brass pulls and original brass locks. The top drawer has a sliding removable divided mahogany work tray. The wood is mahogany and flame mahogany veneer with hand carved acanthus leaves on base and legs and poplar secondary wood. The finish is an old French polish. Four reeded and carved sabre legs support a gadrooned base upon which rests the finely carved pedestal. The brass castors and feet appear to be original. The spiral turned “barley twist” corners and pedestal urn are particularly fine.
