Circa 1960. We offer this antique Mexican Jaguar mask made in leather, mirror for eyes and boar bristles.
These masks depict jaguars and tigers used in ceremonies worn in Zitlala, Guerrero for the fiesta of Santa Cruz, dedicated to a combative nature of feline/canine dances. Also used to enhance fertility and agriculture success. They are made of leather so they are like helmets to wear as there would be combat with sticks during the ceremony Materials used are: leather, paint, mirror for eyes and boar bristles. They are hand-sewn, painted and fashioned by each individuals ideas.
