This large antique tribal mask or sculpture is unsigned and undocumented, but presumed to have originated from Southeast Asia and done in a folk art style. The sculpture os composed of a fragment from a softwood tree and has been hand-carved with a series of stylized faces and polychrome painted in a chalky white and terracotta with black accents. This sculpture was acquired from a local estate who’s ancestors travelled extensively to both Southeast Asian and the Pacific Rim, and we have no provenance for it. In addition, there is no wire or hook on the back as presented.
