Large Annamese Blue and Enameled Ceramic Box, Chu Dau kiln, Vietnam, circa 1500. The
cover with a flat top decorated with landscape design of mountains and trees, outlined with panels along the sides and traces of the light green enameled spots remain while only the shadow of the cross hatched red pigment is evident. Possibly this piece was found by ocean salvage with the light sea degradation of the surface. The lid has a nice tight fit to the base. Glaze chip to the top of the box, minor rim frits to the top and bottom edges, minor glaze deterioration and discoloration, otherwise fine condition.
4.25 in. in diameter x 3 in. high (108 x 77 mm).
12.3 oz. (350g.)
Circa 1500.
