Substantial european pine chest of drawers quite possibly from hungary.
Hand painted in a black and red tonal colour scheme, the paint dates from around the time of application which is 1888, but the chest date’s from much earlier than that.
No expense was spared with this chest, made from very thick pine, making it quite a heavy object. Top surface with 2 hand painted panels which bare’s the name or names sofin bukel and the date of 1888. Fitted with 3 deep drawers, original handles and escutheons. Locks present but no key. All supported by block feet.
Expected losses and fading to paintwork. Surface marks to woodwork. Handle plates with crumpling, but only add to the piece. Minor evidence of dead/inactive worm which has been treated.
